Veterans with MS discuss the side effects of taking medications
VA patients with MS talk about how they deal with common side effects of DMT—ranging from pain or infection at the injection site to overall body stiffness to vertigo. Dr. Jodie Hasselkorn, Dr. Dennis Bourdette, and Dr. Chris Bever discuss how side effects can lead patients to stop treatment—and how a supportive clinical team is essential in helping them deal with whatever side effects they may be having. Key strategies are to reinforce that DMT is critical for long-term disease management and to adjust or complement therapies when possible—for example, by adding an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen.
